Travel Security

Being prepared and aware is most of the battle. Here's how I protect myself, my documents, and my devices when I travel.

Before you go

01

Research your destination

Learn the local customs, the laws, the areas to avoid, and the common scams before you land. Check travel advisories from your government and reputable health sources.

02

Share your itinerary

Give a trusted friend or family member your flights, accommodations, and contact information.

03

Secure your documents

Make digital and physical copies of your passport, visa, and travel insurance. Store them separately from the originals.

04

Pack smart

Bring a basic first-aid kit, your medications, and a portable charger. Leave the valuables home unless you truly need them.

During your trip

05

Stay aware of your surroundings

Crowds, tourist hotspots, and public transportation are the common places for theft and scams. Trust your instincts. If something feels off, remove yourself from the situation.

06

Protect your belongings

Use anti-theft bags or money belts, and don't display jewelry, cameras, or cash.

07

Stay connected

Keep your phone charged, save your emergency contacts, and consider an eSIM (a digital SIM card you install without swapping hardware) or an international data plan.

08

Be cautious with strangers

Friendly is fine, oversharing is not. Be wary of unsolicited offers and overly friendly approaches. Those are how most scams start.

09

Use reliable transportation

Stick to licensed taxis, rideshare apps, or transportation your hotel arranges.
